Pulled this from change. After doing research I believe it is a unique mint error or fake. There is no clad evident on the reeded edge yet Philadelphia did not produce uncirculated Silver quarters. There are strange raised marks on washington's portrait This is a quarter not the 5oz silver coin Let me know what you think? I don't want to send to NGC and waste money

Weight would help see if it is silver. But I am 99 percent sure it is plated. The strange marks are gas bubbles under the plating on the coin. Someone did a poor job of plating the poor quarter. Worth 25 cents.

I'm with kid - probably a plated quarter. That would be my guess.

Additionally you can do the scratch test on the edge. Take an exacto knife and scratch in one of the reeds. This will show you under the plating without making the coin less desirable.

I hope I don't rustle any feathers bringing this thread back up, but I just came across a similar coin last night and a Google search led me here. It's been awhile since I've been here so I felt compelled to post. I work at Mohegan Sun casino and of course I noticed a quarter in the rack that looked different from all the rest (dealing a game that uses quarters may not be the best place for a coin collector ) So I'm checking it out, it feels tin like, possibly even lighter than a regular quarter but maybe I was just exaggerating a difference, and when I flipped it in the air, it had a quieter and higher pitched sound then a clad quarter. The quarter was a 2011 D Gettysburg quarter, which is how a search brought me back here amongst my coin friends . It is a little weird that the quarter I found is the same year and design as the one Ewok found! Any thoughts would be welcomed. Now that I'm here, I'll post a couple more pictures of me at national park quarter locations .

The HSN network was unloading a boatload of the States quarters in the day. Now they are getting into circulation as they are just worth a quarter.

So did the HSN network plate coins?

They were the ones selling them. Both mints of business strikes and a gold set and a platinum plated set.

Cool, so what Ewok and I found was likely a platinum plated quarter sold by HSN. Thanks for the info!
