Let's show some love for the neglected Memorial cents! As some of you may know, I've been on a rampage to find quality Memorial cents. It's proving to very, very difficult because it seems nobody cares about them, which is probably due to the prices. Seems my best outlet is BU rolls since it's almost impossible to find individual quality pieces. Even with an entire roll at my disposal, finding the right coin (nearly flawless) is next to impossible. Most often they are spotted with irremovable black mint crap or the steps have mushy spots where the detail is lost. Anyhow...let me get this started! First up is my 1960D small date. The vast majority of these are bassy in color, however, in the roll I got there were actually two reddish coins. This is the best of the two that I picked for my main collection. It's not ding-free, but the color took me and the strike is very nice: Again, BU are tough to photograph for me....but I tried to capture the red color by placing a brassy example next to it:

Here's another truly RED cent, not bassy. I picked this one over higher grade brassy coins for my collection because I like the reddish color. Also, the steps are perfect, which is hard to find.

Cool....another red collector! This coin is strange, the obv is red and the rev has the typical brassy color....but I love it!

From a mint set, this coin is tough to capture it has so much luster. It's the most beautiful and perfect Memorial in my collection: Just can't get those steps to show right, they are actually flawless, they look like there's a mushy spot on them, but there isn't.

ceaton - I don't consider myself a photographer and not good at it. My results are from a lot of "trial and error" and I'm still not happy. There's still artifacts and color variations I just can't seem to shed. Some things I've learned:
1) Light makes a HUGE difference. Contrary to others, I say use a variety of light sources, mix them all together to get closer to the sun's complete spectrum. 2) Use macro mode AND zoom. Some say "don't use zoom", I say they're wrong. Using zoom allows you to keep the cam away from the coin, which allows more light and less shadows. Just DO NOT USE DIGITAL ZOOM.

Hey guys! Nice cents! Ya pictures take a little while to get used to, I just start tinkering with all the settings until color is as close as I can get it, I then make a mark on my tripod so I can always have it in the same spot, I write down the settings and how I had the lighting set up. Then after that I just mimic what I did.
