Zinc rot, worth 1 cent. The copper plating splits and the zinc is exposed and reacts with the air. Sometimes the mint mark can fall off completely:

Interesting. Perhaps Zinc pennies should be collected since they seem to rot away in a few years.

The ones that don't rot should be worth a lot in the future since so many will rot. But by future I mean probably beyond our lifetime.
