Looks like the die was over polished in some areas more than others. Note the LIB is thinner than the rest of ERTY? Most of the motto is gone. So it was more than just a worn die, it was also abused as well.

So from a top shot the 87 and the D look like a doubled die. Would that just be worn die? And I guess it's only worth 1 cent
