Quote: Sorry to interrupt this thread, but I have a related question...
Where I live (Boston) I use one-dollar coins every day of the week. I get them at the fare vending machines for the MBTA when I load my transit card, then I spend the coins in change around town. Here's my question:
How many of you ever get a dollar coin back in change - anywhere? anybody?
I keep spending them, but no store has ever offered on in change. They just go straight back to the banks... Same thing with my $2 bills. Sorry for the interruption. Yes, I have the same problem here in Los Angeles -- I never receive dollar coins in change at retail stores. The only place they seem to circulate is in our transit systems. I ask for dollar coins at local banks and then use them in the fare machines at train stations to put money on my transit card, which I then use to ride trains and buses. Buses also take dollar coins directly and those coins are eventually put into the fare machines. It seems like the dollar coins tend to stay in the transit system and are used over and over again. I am constantly finding dollar coins there that are worn almost smooth from use.

I would imagine dollar coins only regularly circulate in transit systems, because I've never once received one in change, though interestingly I've gotten a $2 bill on one or two occasions.

2 Ikes on a drink at gas station, 3 SBA, 2 SAC for more para-cord at Walmart. Guy at the gas station was confused when I handed him the Ike dollars, looked at them for a few seconds and handed me my change. As I was walking out of the bathroom I could see him take 2 one dollar bills out of his pocket and exchange them for the Ikes... 66802 left
