thought I would try a Sony a7r mark ii this is really some camera. but there deffently is a learning curve. the tethering program is very complicated. but offers a lot more editing way above my skills. the lens is a rodenstock rodagon d 75MM 1:4 M 1:1 . I purchased and enlarger stand Russian from the USA. I got the camera mounting plate made this morning. this camera and lens doesn't need any extra lighting. so all these picture are taken with just the normal room lighting. well like how it all works. I have ot work on my camera focusing. the camera magnifier to focus with I have just found out is in the camera. c1 and c2 buttons here are the pictures

Does the tethering program support magnified live view on the PC monitor (for focusing)?

pepactonius yes it does there is 2 ways to magnify for critical focus. that are part of the tethering program. plus c1 and c2 is the third way to magnify your image. I have been chatting on another forum. that are big users of these mirror less cameras. I am very surprised that I don't need my janjso lamps. I actually have to shade the coins a bite to cut the light. but on the other forum the a7r and the a7mark ii. preform better tethered than the a7r markii. I found out a7rmark ii was and after thought. when it came to tethering. the members on the other forum have been in contact with sony. they want them to come out with a firmware that will address these issues for the sony a7r mark ii. a company has stepped up with a tethering program and editing program all in one. it is a lot more advanced you would not need adobe or anything else. I see they are getting ready to take over Nikon tethering program as well because Nikon is dropping tethering all together. they will no longer support tethering it has been out sources. this is what I have been informed on another forum. plus that group posted Nikon announcement.

if anyone is thinking about a sony camera. stay away from the sony a7r mark ii. because you will have a lot of problems with the tethering program. the program was meant to be used on the sony a7r and a7mark ii. until there is firmware to address the issue with the sony a7r mark ii stay away from this one. I had to delete the program right out of my computer. no good

I tried some silver in plastic this camera is one that a person has to work with. the images are very large. I have figured out how to magnify the image for critical focus. you have shadow the images to darken enough. to photography them that is a big bonus. I will need to build a small enclosure. that will help a lot with silver.

mcshilling yes no added lights. just the room lighting. mcshilling on one of rays other posts. he mentions a material called vellum. I have a pad of that. that might just cut the light enough. so the silver coins are light even enough across the surface. I will shade the coin and post some more images later. this will also make a good diffuser for other coins. have a great one I will also try a twoonie. see what I get. I saw on your thread you are getting very close good photos.

Just like you it's a work in progress.

I've been working on getting 2 monitors on one computer, that thread is down in CCF Support.

this camera is getting very easy to work with. I am surprised how much I have to darken the coin. I am only using the room lighting. but this camera is off the scale. all I do is set it in p mode. focus on the coin and don't touch anything else. I will cut that 1965 penny out of the plastic. see what kind of a photo I get of it. plus I will try a twoonie.

The mark on SJA Mac. looks like the surrogated edge of a coin.

The side by sides look great but they don't look real. Did you take the pic?

no I copied that from the government site. to show what the coin should look like. there is a point on his cheek where 2 lines meet like a triangle. and then that snake line is there. almost like another coin die. was stamped into the cheek. I took that with a 3 power microscope objective. I will try to find my 5 power microscope objective. that does a better job. mcshilling its hard to figure out how much light to cut by shading. see this camera has a back lite sensor. it is designed to work in very low light. still learning have a great one
