So in Tennessee, coin counters in banks is not a thing. Everything I search through I have to re-roll by hand. That's right - every single penny. But I just realized it keeps other people who aren't crazy enough to roll all their change by hand like me from going through banks. So it's a con that I have to roll everything by hand, but it's a pro that it keeps other people from going from the change.

I live in TN and I see a lot of people putting jar of coins in the coin counting machines in the grocery stores. I guess some people are too lazy to count and roll their own so they pay the commission for the machines to count for them.

learn to open only 1 end, and reuse the roll, as you go through the coins just dump them back in. if you find a keeper, just replace it with one. I do this and I can search a bout a roll every minute, from open to close.

How I've been doing it :D
I use a flat head screwdriver to pull up the paper at one end, then flip and insert screwdriver into the other end of the roll and push all the coins out. Then keep a pile of the denomination I'm looking at as "replacements" for the ones I want to keep. No counting involved :]

This somehow seems intuitive.

Alright I gotta ask because I'm sure it's me just having a brain blackout but how is this a plus for a CRH'er? Just curious-I am referring to the OP...Edit: okay think I just got it! Lol you're referring to the fact that it may keep others from going to the bank and sucking up the rolls because they don't want to re wrap, yes? If that's not it then I'm still lost...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't counting machines such as Coin Star collect the money and hand it off to Brinks/Loomis/other rolling company? So you still have the coins returning to the bank. If you're worried about grabbing the same rolls then mark your rolls with a pen so you know what you've been through. Also if you think you have been getting the same coins back just switch denomination for a while.

(You can also invest in a counting or rolling machine if you really want to keep doing things the way you're doing them. So long as it doesn't break you can always resell it when/if you are ever done with it)
