I am new to this forum so I apologize if I am posting in the wrong area. I am not very tech savvy and this was the first area I found to post anything. I was looking through my Wheat penny collection today and came across a 1943 copper penny. I put a magnet on it and it doesn't stick. Also, it has green on it, like copper does as it ages. I was wondering how to tell if this is a real copper penny or a fake. And if it is, what is the correct way to go about selling it. Thank you in advance for any help you are able to give.

A picture would be helpful.

Also, a real cent would have a weight of 3.11 Grams, and I have a feeling that yours is a cast/struck counterfeit

to CCF. A good photo and a weight would help. There are a lot of fakes out there. Good luck. John1

I am trying to upload pictures of my penny, however after following the directions it said my image was too large. So I took tutorial and resized my pictures, still too large. Repeated process, now I can't get the upload pop up window to come up. I will try again and post as soon as I am able. Thanks for all your help and patience.

to CCF Heather1968 with John1 It is semi-common to find a fakes in a collection.. I got 3 fakes from lincon cent collections I purchased... But you never know... someone has to find the real ones!

The very first thing I would looks for is an altered date from a later coin.

I suspect that the cent, not penny, is an altered date, maybe from 1942 or 1948? If not that, it's probably a fake. It's extremely unlikely that it's real, but if it happened to be, you'd have a few hundred grand on your hands.
