Adam5 - So are the frustrations of roll searching...could have been worse, could have been the full circle in the center of the coin, that you see on so many 1964's.

Sooo ... searching last night and a lovely 1943 Jefferson pops out of the roll face up ........ XF40/AU on the obverse ..... Be still heart ...... could it be my long awaited 43-D? That delicious moment of anticipation ..... the flip .... and ...... 43-S! This is a fine coin .... and an upgrade to my circulation strike collection. I just don't know whether to cheer or cry. I'm at 207,600 coins and still looking. David

Aww, you'll get it next time nickelsearcher. I found 2 1942D's in the same box last night so I'm down to 6 holes left. I was convinced 42D would be the one I couldn't find. Now I'm guessing 38D or 50D will be the last.

that is a nice 1943, anyways not much interesting from canadian circulation, just a couple wars, one is a 45S, I forget the second but its a common, anyways a week before I find it the neighbor finds one in his change and asks me if it's worth anything, I tell him according to my RedBook, anyways I find mine a week later, talk about strange.

I have yet to pick up a whole box of nickels (just starting out with roll searching). However, I got 5 rolls of nickels from the bank last Friday.
I was surprised to find 4 Buffalos in the 5 rolls we got.
1936-S 1937 (x2) 1937-D
My wife actually pulled each one out of the piles of nickels after I cracked them open. After the first one, she started anticipating them... and to my surprise, they kept coming.
I guess it is a bit of beginner's luck. I have read through the board and found that the Buffalo finds are fairly rare.
I am going to try to pick up some more rolls this week, but will likely not repeat the same results.

Went through a box today, found 2 silver wartime nickels (somewhat disappointed)along with many early nickels I needed. The best find of the lot was a 1910 liberty head.

Before I open up my box of nickels saturday morning I was wondering if someone could tell me how I can tell if I have a proof coin or not? I really just want to know before I start going further down the road :)

zimick: 4 buffaloes in 5 rolls? Nice job! Where they customer wrapped or bank wrapped?
jrh2108: 2 wars and a V in one box is a pretty good box. Be prepared to be really disappointed in the future if you think that's bad! ;)
zestykat: You'll know when you find one. Some of the earlier ones from the 60's and can fake you out, but anything later is REALLY obvious.

Quote: jrh2108: 2 wars and a V in one box is a pretty good box. Be prepared to be really disappointed in the future if you think that's bad! ;) I'll totally echo that...I've found 1 V nickel in about 100,000 nickels searched; and 2 wars in a box is great, I average 1 every 2 boxes. Just for fun I thought I'd share some photos of the 1943-D I pulled the other night, in case Nickelsearcher is confused as to what they look like (this is my 5th):
