I've been hunting rolls of nickels for about 3 years now, but I started searching entire boxes about 6 months ago, which is where the majority of my collection has come from. Here's the highlights: (Out of 13 boxes, 3 years of working a cash register, and about $300 in loose rolls): 627 pre-'59 21 War Nickels (8 are '43-P, 2 are too badly damaged to determine a date) Most common: 1958-D (61) 1959-D (45) 1946 (42) 1940 (38) Rarest: 1950-D (1) 1938-S (1) 1938-D (1) 1939-S (1) 1955 (1) 1951-S (2) 2009-P (1) Oldest: 1891 V nickel in AG or Poor 12 buffalos, mostly dateless. Dated are 1921, 1936, 1937 in VF 1927 Canadian Other: 1989-S Proof 1941 BU 1 Peso, Mexico 1996 2008 Fish nickel Thai 1 Baht Bonus dime in a CWR Holes left to fill: 1939-D 1942-S 1943-D 1944-S 1953-S

This might be wrong. I apologize to Coppernickeldaddy for STEALING his information. In any event, I am missing the data for rolls 12,501 to 12,700. I also have not double checked the data but it seems reasonable. If anyone has detailed records of all coins found before 1958 then I would love to add them to my data. In any event, this is the total after 20,800 rolls sorted by our great leader, Coppernickeldaddy 1938 64 1938d 6 1938s 5 1939 384 1939d 4 1939s 3 1940 620 1940d 111 1940s 94 1941 661 1941d 118 1941s 108 1942 119 1942d 18 1942P 22 1942S 12 1943P 106 1943D 3 1943S 38 1944P 50 1944D 10 1944S 5 1945P 60 1945D 10 1945S 16 1946 575 1946d 134 1946s 38 1947 350 1947d 88 1947s 86 1948 284 1948d 114 1948s 20 1949 196 1949d 105 1949s 10 1950 40 1950d 2 1951 112 1951d 58 1951s 16 1952 259 1952d 120 1952s 56 1953 165 1953d 250 1953s 74 1954 199 1954d 565 1954s 64 1955 21 1955d 343 1956 190 1956d 333 1957 198 1957d 742 1958 125 1958d 870 I ignored everything except the Jefferson nickels 1958 and before

Is hard to say by the pics !Post a pic of the reverse ! I couldnt find a 69 but here is a 68 so you compare ! Put your coin next to another 69S and see if looks the same or if you can see the mirror effect on the backgroung even a lil cameo on the devices !

Strange trend I've noticed...
Upon finding the '50-D I have decided to complete the whole 1938-2011 (and onward) set, but I only keep AU-MS coins past '59. After keeping my eyes open, I have noticed a surprising number (2-5 per box) of exceptionally well-struck '87-D's with 4-6 full steps. I still find an occasional '88 or '89 with a solid strike, but nothing like the '87. Were these coins struck better, or am I finding a very small portion of a very large hoard that was recently dumped into a coinstar and ended up at brinks?

Finished box #8. I only found one hole filler a 1941s. I am working on a set from circulation. I still need 1938s 1939d and 1939s 1942d 1942p silver and 1942s silver 1943d and 1943s silver 1944d and 1944s silver 1945d silver 1946d 1948s 1949s 1950d 1951s 1952 (surprised I have not found one) 1952s 1953s 1955 1957 I know some like the 1950d and 1939d are going to be hard to find. I also found this today searching which helps for the lack of hole fillers. It is a 1999d, I believe, that is struck through a capped die.
