My son and I did a box of nickels tonight.

My find was a 1938P.

His finds were a 1935P Buffalo and a 1939D in almost uncirculated condition. That second nickel was a gem.

To answer your question, we each have 4 sets of the 1938-1961 Whitman folders. We have all the holes filled except for many of the "rare five".

I'll update you folks on our progress. As you may recall, besides our sets, we don't keep any extra nickels except for Liberty, buffalo, silver, and those with a mintage under 15 million, plus the 1938P.

Our finds, including those in our sets, are:

Group #1
1950D 0
1939D 4
1938S 0
1938D 2
1939S 2

Group #2
1951S 19
1955P 15
1949S 10
1950P 14

Group #3
1948S 14
1946S 12
1942D 9

Group #4

That box had so many keepers. It surprises me that you didn't get a single War Nickel or buffalo.

I was waiting to hit gold soooo many times! (Well actually silver, but you know what I mean). My best guess, is that some collector/hoarder decided it was time to get rid of any old coins not silver, and the bank just rolled them up. I need to go back and get another box, because the credit union I use rolls their own coins. There are 3 branches in my city, so I dump at one bank in the coinstar and grab at the other 2. Maybe time to grab some dimes just in case

Box #29 down! Almost to 30!
no silver that's 29/26
no buffs
no proofs
no V's

1947-S thats a semi key date and I think its the second one I have.

HOWEVER, I am bidding on a dateless lot of buffs on ebay and maybe another as well, I'm currently winning so I'll post my best finds here.
