The Goal: 25,000 Rolls Of Nickels (All Searchers Welcome!)

Well, I get about one Buffalo (dateless and dated) every $200 or so. That's nice, but I like getting the silver War Nickels the most. I average about 1.5 War Nickels every $100. This last box ($100) was an unique occurrence for me with 4 War Nickels. Just for clarity, War Nickels are my preferred coin for hunting. I'll get other denominations every so often.

Wheatchaser, I started out searching pennies, which wasnt too bad at the start but it got to the point where one box would take me more than three hours. I was pulling certain dates to check for errors, coppers, and other things that were not normal or some eye catching PMDs. I've been through 18 boxes of cents and 16 boxes of nickels. I am addicted to nickels because I can actually find keepers. On average, the only things I would keep for pennies is 5-8 wheats and a dozen S mints. With nickels, the pre 60's (could be thought of as wheats as they are mostly the same dates) I find on average 25-30 per box, 15 or so S mints, 1-2 wars a box, and a buffalo once in a blue moon. Also, nickels aren't as dirty as pennies are, I love them! Give them a shot next week!!

I just found a 1938 s in a cwr. I picked up 7 rolls to search and in the second roll, there it was, and in vf-ef condition too. All I need is a 43 d to complete my set from circulation. I have been chasing these final 2 for about 3 years now, She sure was a sight for sore eyes.

Congrats on the 38S! Thats the only one I need of the first 4 hard ones (38d, s and 39d, s).

It took my son and I much longer to find our hardest to find Jefferson nickel, the 1950d, of which we only have one. (We were beginning to think all you other guys had taken them out of circulation.) Our second hardest nickels to find are the 1938s and the 1943D, of which we only have two each.
