I've only had one box ever (and it was 6 rolls short) with more ever - my famous 170 pre-60 coin box from two summers ago - a sister box had 37 pre-60s, and I managed to find 3 of the 5 key date Jeffersons (38-D, 38-S, 39-D) between the two, but no War Nickels. And CambriaMarket, nice finds! As for your 1953-S, the reverse is typical for coins from that mint from 1952 through 1954. It looks like that as a result of an overused die. In my findings, the dies were very overused for all three of those years, with 1953 being the worst of them in terms of strike quality. The obverses of these three coins, while often poorly struck, are not nearly as bad looking as the reverses. CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! FYI, 1955 Philly nickels are also usually very mushy on the reverse, and often look like the reverse as the very common 1964 Philly coins in terms of the strike characteristics. Bought 7,920 nickels last Wednesday, just finished them today... Honestly, not a great batch. Only 55 pre-60s and 9 2009-Ds among the coins, including the 2 most common Buffalos - 1936 and 1937 Philly coins... Only other coins of note were single 1949-S, 1958, and 2009-P coins, along with a 12 sided 1961 Canadian Nickel. Yup... almost 4 boxes worth without a single silver coin.  One other oddity - a group of 960 coins in String&Sons wrap from a BofA branch had an unusually high number (around 60) of freshly minted 2018-P coins. I pulled the best 40 and saved them. There also were no S-minted coins to be found (not even 1968-1970)... Out here in California, you never see that. The aforementioned 1958 Philly also came from this batch. I am very curious as to the travels of the box they came from and where it originated. CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

Last night's box yielded a 1944S, the second lowest mintage silver nickel, and an undated buffalo.

Great finds everyone. Also that 1950-D is a low mintage year. That is a great find, along with the proof.

Congrats on the 50-D, CambriaMarket! Awesome! This month has been my worst CRH month since I started 2 1/2 years ago... Bought 5,600 nickels this past Friday... The "highlights" were a 2009-P and a 2000-S Impaired Proof. I only found 41 pre-60s (with the "best" dates being a 1953-S and a 1959 Philly), and again no War Nickels. Also found 6 2009-Ds. Hopefully, I'll get the good mojo back soon. CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!
