Since the other thread was brought up about the American Gold Eagle going to 24K next year, do you believe that it will make a difference?

Here is the current spread for Gold Bullion at 11:40AM Oct. 20, 2005

Gold Bullion Coin Prices:

American Eagle: 1-oz. : $490.05

Canadian Maple Leaf: 1-oz. : $489.05

Australian Kangaroos: 1-oz. : $491.05

Austrian Vienna Philharmonics: 1-oz. : $491.05

South African Kruggerrands: 1-oz. : $481.05

Since the 24K doesn't seem to make a noticable difference in value versus 22K, do you believe that it is striclty an "image" of quality?

Opinions?

I honestly haven't given Gold much thought lately except to not be buying right now !!

As far as the AE's going 24K,, I think it is intended more for the overseas market, and is intended to draw investors to compete with the other 24K bullion already being offered by other countries.

I would like to add this! The AE is NOT going 24K next year. The AE is staying 22K, (per mint news release earlier this summer) if the mint has not changed its plans, as the NEW 24K will be a new design in 2007 with the 2006 issue being a reproduction of our classic Indian/Buffalo nickel. My guess is the Mint wants to assure a HOT collector item the first year and it will also give the mint staff another year to come up with the new 24K designs. Personally as a collector I do think it will make a difference, if only in ones mind, but as an investor, I am not sure. Perhaps there are investors out there who seek only the 24K but in my mind I don't see most of them actually caring about design or the difference between 22K or 24K. Could be wrong as I am not an investor as much as I am a coin collector. One thing is for certain if the mint does a one year Indian/Buffalo in gold (4 denominations) it will be a major seller next year, at least in this country. Any one heard anything further concerning this proposal?

I do not know about all countries but several countries do not really buy into american one ounce eagles
Japan I understand prefers Wiener Philharmonicks at more then 50% of market share
I think several europena countries prefer Nugget Kangeroos
So it is a marketing move
As the marketing machine of the Monnaie de Paris found out
They are only getting large value over melt for series of 99 coins only
Series limited to 4000 or such only got 2400 coins actually minted before they gave up
I bought a Lance Armstrong winning de tour de france one ounce at melt plus 5 % on the secondary market
I do not even want to think what the first owner paid for it
