What else did you expect? That RCM would skip the January?

Quote: Special selective gold plated dollar coin celebrates 150 years of the Transatlantic Cable. Standalone silver version of the dollar above. Quite surprised by the selection of the Transatlantic Cable theme for the annual SD vs. one commemorating Canada's government! (See my previous post: https://goccf.com/t/247456 ) That said, the laying of the first transatlantic communications cable that would achieve long-term success is certainly a milestone worth commemorating. It's good to see a return to the selective gold plating for the SD in the Fine Silver Proof Set vs. another painted coin. I prefer the more "classic" look of the GP coins.

Thank you for update, MTS
we will be waiting for the "others", could be there is something special.
Might be the coins not overpriced, but reduced price and limited mintage. And Baby 'ABC' set - for the long time after 2007 they still extremely popular, might be 2016 will be the same?

I thought that the first transatlantic cable was laid in 1858?

Yeah, but it failed. While the cable laid in 1866 worked for a 100 years.

Quote: I thought that the first transatlantic cable was laid in 1858? It was, but it broke after just a few weeks of use. A second attempt was made in 1865, but the cable broke before it was able to be completed. The third attempt, in 1866, was successful and continued in use into 1872. It is this successful cable that the RCM appears to be commemorating.

The cables history was a good read. It looks like a smaller release. I will need the silver set and proof dollar for my collection, but no hurry, will pay off Christmas first. I was looking at my purchase history, only 8 mint purchases, and 4 my rep put in without asking. Looks like I paid for a glass turtle, but I never received it. So will need to look into this. I'm happy my mint ordering is down.
Who else is cutting back on mint direct orders. I was reading on the other forum, a member was told by a mint employee, they're reducing the amount of issues this year. I hope its true! Although they sure have a lot of xforx coins. At first it was fun, now its just overwhelming. The designs aren't as strong either. I do like how the denomination is smaller and not front and centre either.
The other thing that is putting me off, is all these Chinese fakes. The counterfeit forum is going gang busters with postings. The mint ignoring this problem, makes me not want to support them. In fairness I don't know what other world mints are doing about the problem. Then their bullion and its milk spots, just ruins a great design. So what's left circulation coins!!

Wow Silveroid looks like you cut back drastically too. You have some great selects though. Are you going to add the color 50 cent coin, it could be interesting.
Its interesting how nclt collecting views have changed from the heyday of 2012 when I started. I didn't see this coming back then. Its been an eye opening journey and an enjoyable one. I have curbed the impulse buying, and I'm still looking for some older coins, but no rush. I just miss the thrill of a well discussed coin, the excitement was infectious.

Silveroid, Are you still a MC member with so few coin purchases from the Mint? If so, your MC membership is not going to be renewed if you don't buy more coins from the Mint.

I am really on the fence whether or not to maintain the basic membership, since Canada Post offers free shipping. Id have no problem if issue prices didn't fall like a rock within the first year. To me its a huge turn off, with almost instant price drop, it doesn't have to gain in value. At least with the different circulation coins they already have a track record. Only down side there's seldom a design change. The bank thing isn't worth it to me. Like everyone has said there's only a couple highly sought after coins a year. So at the Silver level they will be sold out, prior to new set up, a rep was the answer. Now what's the point of having one, when its easier to order over the website. I see to much duplication of services. The rep will not help me access platinum level coins, and I am fine with this.

Yes, MoneyPenney, you right, I will loose it. For the 3 years I bought many coins, current and the old one, increasing my collection base and trying to understand, what exactly I want and how do I want to see my collection. When the flood of 2013 / 2014 started and increased, I've decided, that do not want to be like warehouse of NCLT and prefer to have the "core" plus really chosen ones. The majority of the items that I wanted, were available to all the customers.....

I think those monthly catalogs get mailed out to anyone who signs up on the website. Mine always arrived after the release. I do keep mine, its a nice little record of releases and nicely done.
What are these reps going to do, doesn't seem like many forum member are going to be big spenders anymore. My first rep just started Sept 2014, and I was switched in July to someone else. I wonder if they will discontinue reps for Silver MC. Also we heard how the top tiers would be invited to webinars, has anyone had the experience yet.
