If VF-30 is the net based on its current appearance, atlashealth, that's close enough for me. It's got at least XF details as far as I'm concerned.

What would you soak that in to remove the debris? Thanks! Gussyboy1

Most will say Acetone, but I like Xylene on copper cents.

VF30 Acetone is known to have no damage on copper

Whoa, harsh grading, this is an AU coin and there's no corrosion. That is surface debris that will come off with a rinse. The 2x2 that it was in was "dusty", I just ripped it open and took pics, then I realized when I looked at the pics how nasty it looked. Most 1917S's were from worn dies, this one is actually a bit sharper than others I've looked at....that's why I bought it.

I was looking at the current appearance--if that all lifts up, off, and out and there isn't a corrosion spot by his neck then a nice early AU it will be and I will erase anything you find objectionable in an electronic eating of my words!

HAHAHAHAHA....I hope they taste good! For some reason the light off the top of the right stalk makes it look worn, it is NOT. Look at the original pic. It does have some strike weakess though. Photograding can be very deceiving! This coin looks 2x better in-hand.

It was just sitting on the surface from poor 2x2 storage practices. It was a crappy, dirty and old 2x2. I used acetone, it was just pieces of cardboard and dust from the 2x2. Whoever put it in there was not as nearly anal as me, I use a Kimwipe and blow those 2x2's out with air before use. I HATE dust for the very reason shown in my first pics. Xylene is also a good, non-damaging solvent on copper. Just like NCS, I don't call this "cleaning", I call it "conservation".

I was going to say AU50, but BadThad said it looked 2x better in hand, so AU100 it is.
