Was sorting threw some Jefferson nickels tonight looking for full steps. I forgot about this one and thought I would ask about it. This coin is really nice and seem to be a nice full step to me. It also has a Die crack coming off the T on Monticello.

First off, does this look like a full step to you and if so, does the die crack hurt its value. I know people collect various die crack coins and some collect full steps. is this an unusal coin to have both? Thanks for any information.

Is the mark raised or incuse? It looks incuse which would make it either a scratch or a strike through. If struck through, it would possibly be from a wire brush bristle or a small scrap of metal. I have a Jefferson nickel that looks similar. It has a strike through on FIVE- it goes through one side of the word and out the other.
As far as the full steps, the right side looks a bit weak, maybe the photo is out of focus? If it is a focus issue, I would say that it is FS.

Thanks for the info Bio. The crack is incused and in the right lighting and angle it does appear to travel a bit further but very lightly. I don't think it's post mint as none of the surrounding area shows any surface marks at all or cleaning. Infact the guy I got it from took it out of a mint set for the halve and quarter.

As far as the right side of the steps, its the photo. The right side is actually nicer then the left. I use a 20X loop for all my full step veiwing and any with rubs or depressions go in the regular box.

A die crack is raised not incuse. Incuse would be a striking issue or damage after the strike. But my guess it is a strike though wire.

Your right Coop, what was I thinking. The die is cracked it would leave a raised impression. Been a long week and its only Monday.
