Hello, I was just wondering what everyone thought the grade was on this 1903-P Morgan. My guess is MS64, but I tend to grade high. Sorry for the small pics.

Thanks!

I'll go with MS63PL for now. The marks on the cheek and eye and in the field in front of her face really detract. Could be the lighting and strong reflections accentuating the marks.

I see it as a strong 63 with a shot at 64, depending upon which TPG you were to submit to. The scratch on the cheek keeps it out of the 65 range. The reverse appears to be PL, but the obverse does not. Unfortunately, that is common for these coins. The reverse is absolutely gorgeous, though.

In my opinion, this is what the coin would grade at the various TPG's:

PCGS - MS63
ANACS - MS62-63
ICG - MS64
NGC - MS64-65 (As you can see, I have no faith at all in NGC's grading skills)

Obviously, this is only my opinion. It is based on past experience with graded coins and the current trends I've seen with coins in NGC slabs.

Does the gouge on the rim between the "I" and "T" in united, affect the grade?

I wonder that myself. It is distracting.
