Unique in its type.

The seller probably will not ship to the Canada.

But why it graded MS69 without mentioning special pattern of "milk spot"?
Anyway, soon the coin will be covered completely with the fog.

For a few bucks over spot, where the auction is now, it would be kinda cool.

There are three bids, so somebody wants it. It is amazing how a slab can make some people not really look at the coin but just read the number. Remember, buy the coin not the holder.

Yeah, I could see your point. Would go in the 'ugliest coin' slot of the collection!

The coins are usually sent for grading shortly after release. The milk spots generally don't develop until 2-3 years later. A number of members have reported buying beautiful SMLs shortly after release and then going back to them years later and finding something like that (although usually not this bad!)

I wonder how far back we can go and have a spot free maple. Are some years more plagued than others. Is there certain storage methods that yield better results.

The whole milk spot thing is a real downer and it not only affects the maples but the wildlife series and bird series that the RCM has come out with. That being said I did pick up a 1989 maple the other day from an auction - in it's original plastic and it looks clean. Had a tube of maples from 2011 and some of them were quite bad.

Wow a clean 1989, maybe they took more pride in their coins then. I agree the wildlife and bird bullion are beauties, but the spots scare me off. They put effort into top designs, yet don't care about the production process. I don't get the folk buying these as graded, knowing they can spot at anytime. When I was new to collecting, I figured the slab was excellent protection. Its really a shame as the privy maples are very nice too. I cannot imagine it would cost that much to change the system. Leaving it status quo, why bother with low mintage products. Those privy coins can be pricy.

Why anyone would buy this coin over bullion is beyond comprehension.

The reason I don't collect bullion is 1) it doesn't have much of a story, and 2) I usually don't have that kind of money.

This coin seems to be interesting enough to counteract point 1 (and I also wouldn't call it ugly... well the design is ugly, sure, but the "toning" is nice); and I thought it wouldn't pass point 2, but apparently it sold for (a bit under) $25, which seems to be just cheap enough for me to afford.
(Seems that silver prices had climbed back down enough that, for the first time since 2011, I might actually be able to afford large silver.)

End result: yes, I would definitely buy that as a novelty. I've been considering getting a slabbed coin anyway. But I doubt anyone would ship to my country.

If you take this coin to any dealer, they would only offer you bullion value. this is not toning but just terrible manufacturing by the RCM, but at least everyone knows it's not a fake.

@january1may:
Probably you should search for these I Europe, for example among German dealers.
No problem to ship to Russia, as soon the buyer will take all responsibility, I for example would afraid, that package may "gone" at the customs....
But just let you know, shipping from the Canada will be expensive for you, not worth ordering single coin.

And welcome to Canadian NCLT sub-forum!

I wouldn't buy that coin for bullion, with or without the slab.
I have enough milk spotted 1 ounce coins already.
It is not a novelty, it looks awful.
