The detail might make AU50 but the coin has the earmarks of an ex-jewelry piece meaning it probably wouldn't grade problem-free. BobS New Member United States 3 Posts	Posted 12/28/2015 10:21 am I only rinsed it in water. I'm guessing the soldiers were paid in gold at this site. I also found a 3 cent silver and my friend found a Seated half dime. Gold usually comes out of the ground looking like it did when it as lost. Being so small probably saved it from being torn up by a plow. These days they dont even plow. Mostly no till farming. Report this Post to the Staff
