I bought this coin a few years ago on the no-no site. It was a nice looking coin and had a little bit of toning. I put it away and just pulled it out recently to find that it has been toning... a lot! Do coins usually tone quickly. It has probably been four or five years, but it was not nearly like this when I bought the coin. Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance!

Let me point out that this is almost always a very bad idea. What isn't counterfeit is usually WAY overpriced. I hope you thoroughly examined it upon arrival to make sure it was genuine. But it looks okay to me.

I can't fully grasp the true appearance of the toning from the pictures, so I can't help you there.

Coins tone.
Coins tone faster if they are not stored correctly.
That means:
-- the type of holder
-- the temperature
-- the humidity
-- the variability of the temperature
-- the other items nearby

Is that brownish color what it really looks like?

Curious ..... Try posting a pic with a different background, try white and if that doesn't work try black!

It might be real, but the 2 in the date looks funny to me, might just be the lighting though.
Rest in Peace

Ditto kanga . Or it's a ''Chameleon coin''> changes colors with the background rug.

Is it magnetic? Can you give us an accurate weight in grams?

What did you pay for it from the no-no site? 1921 is a very common date so it could be real. To me it looks authentic but cannot be 100% sure with those pictures.

You often cannot judge authenticity in a picture; however, whomever thinks this coin may not be genuine...Enough said :(

The toning looks OK (Market acceptable); nevertheless, browns, blacks, and grays are not usually sought after. The brown is light, the luster comes through well. If this were a grade by picture poll, My grade should be MS-64-. Bet most would poll as MS-63.

I like toned coins that are attractive to me and I will buy them but often the seller wants too big of a premium for them and I pass. It is also very hard to determine what the toning actually looks like in most of the pictures on ebay that also adds to the problem.

Lastly, there is toning that to me just is not attractive and reduces the appeal of a coin and I will past on them every time.

I agree with Ed. I just compared the date to mine as well as the reverse. Mine's in 63 condition. The 2 doesn't look right at all and the reverse bow looks different as well.

I don't know if it's enough to call it 'not genuine' but it does give me great pause and great concern.

I'm hoping I'm totally wrong however.

Coins that quickly tone are usually doctored with in some way. You'll see a few oddly toned brown coppers in PCGS 'red" holders on ebay that were chemically altered just prior to being slabbed..

Well there are concerns as to if it is real or not but if it is real it's Beautiful. I love toned coins and have many myself but I think we need to know how it was stored for one thing.
Rest in Peace

I don't see anything on this Morgan screaming out fake. However I am not an expert on these. you need to do a weight , dimension , and magnet test. also thickness.
The toning to me looks natural and undisturbed. IMHO I Think you have a real nice 21-P Morgan.
