German Student Association Token?

I posted this on the Identification forum and someone responded that it was not a coin but was actually a German Student Association token. I'd really like to know more about this. I haven't been able to find anything online that tells me anything, so I'm hoping that someone here can help.

Backstory:

My husband collects coins. A lot of his coins are from 1920s to 1940s Germany, so it makes sense that this might come from the same era. I've posted an image of one side of this coin/token - the other side is worn down to nothing, so I don't know if there was ever something on the other side. The size is 3/4 inches in diameter and it weighs about 2.85 grams.

My husband and I would love to know more about this item, so any information would be appreciated.
