I would appreciate if someone could tell me where I can find the approximate era of a slab based on the type, as I'm a bit curious as to when my coins were graded. A lot of what I could find online was only applicable to sample slabs. Thanks!

I think the info you found on sample slabs gives you the info you want. The TPGs, I think, released the sample slabs each time they changed the holder or label design.

Until I can find a copy of Conder101's book the sampleslab website is the next best thing aside from asking Conder himself in a thread that is

There are threads on the PCGS and NGC forums that show the generations up through around 2007

This is the NGC Thread

http://boards.collectors-society.co...#Post2248404

And this is the one for the PCGS generations

"Unfortunately the forum will not let me post the link for the PCGS generations"

The sample slabs website has errors in the order of some of the generations and some of the generations can't be identified on his site because they involved changes in the back of the slabs which he does not show.

When I try I get the message that the forum is busy and the post can't be accepted at this time. If I remove the link it posts. If I then try editing the post and inserting the link it accepts the changes but auto deletes the link as being not allowed.

I sent Numisma the PCGS link by email.

I think we need an explanation from bobby on this one. I can't see why a link like that would be blocked

Sample slabs is unfortunately badly out of date. Cam had something like 120-130 samples. David's recent book has 585 (more with the 30 or so he didn't have that I've fed to him, plus more from other readers too).

Lakesammman did an update on PCGS but as we found out above the PCGS site url is being blocked here. You can certainly Google for it (search for "PCGS Generations - an attempted update"), it should be the 1st hit.

Conder's book can be borrowed from the ANA library (you have to be a member) for the cost of postage both ways.

If you post photos, several of us can give you results from the book plus our collections.
