One of my collecting habits is trying to find rare sestercii in affordable grades.

This coin, minted 22-23 AD commemorates Tiberius's generosity in providing aid to the 14 Asian cities which were destroyed by the great earthquake of 17 AD. The obverse depicts a statue of the seated Tiberius erected by the cities rather than the man himself. The legend would have originally read CIVITATIBVS ASIAE RESTITVTIS.

Interesting rare find. Condition isn't all that bad.

Any Sestertius of Tiberius is good to have !
But of course the ones connected to actual events do add a some extra interest.
The coin is a bit rough but unless you have deep pockets we must often settle for the reasonably priced piece.

Last year I found a Caligula sacrificing sestertius for an unheard of $65 !
Like yours a bit rough around the edges. Even has a strange rectangular hole (plugged) in the center. Adds some mystery to the piece.

You can't go wrong buying Julio Claudian sestertii even in these types of condition !
You just don't see them offered very often.

The first century will always be ....... number one in my book !
