Looks like a "pillars and waves" Spanish colonial type.

This was a gift I received for Christmas and was sold to my husband by coin shop as a piece 8. He unfortunately knows nothing about coins and trusted the retailer. I believe he was ripped off. Even if the coin he believed he was buying over priced due to condition. I dont want to hurt his feelings but I can't let this just go.

I don't know much about these, but from pictures I will say:

Looks real.
Indeed spanish colonial, with overstrike (the 'C' and 'A' are repeated)
The P on the coin can be a clou to find out more
