Looking over some of my late Grandma's items, found some crisp 1976 $2 Bills. She got them stamped and dates and wrote "first day of issue" on the envelope.

What are the things to look for in determining if these have any added value today?

Check ebay sold values. Not much of a premium if I remember right, but does have sentimental value right.

they were stamped and post marked on the first day by a third party. Maybe the Post Office
I have lots of them from many different states with many different stamps, some have stamps of state flags.

While the vast majority of FDI 1976 $2s were stamped at an ordinary local post office, the postmark location could play a role in the value. The best one I have was postmarked at the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, aka the Gateway Arch, which was established to commemorate Jefferson's crowning achievement of the Louisiana Purchase.

I have several of these I bought at auction, $4 each. so they can be had for little more than face..The right postmark may change that a lot for the right collector

Thanks Guys, Ill get some pictures in a day or so. I dont think they are worth much, but a few on ebay are 2-3 times higher than others, could be the specific stamp I suppose.

@John1: Its an estate, so I have to put a value on it, if it was just me I would keep them of course.
