Hi, I'm new to the Forum and would much appreciate any help that might enable me to identify a coin. I don't generally buy group lots but an auction yesterday had one which contained 3 coins that I have always admired so I bid and was successful. The lot description was somewhat sparse - '4 Greek Coins'. I attach (hopefully!) a picture of the lot. I can identify the 3 larger coins but am struggling with the smallest. Is it a Teos hemiobol?

Thanks in anticipation,

Ian.

It's best just to post the coin you want to have identified.

From what I can make out it does appear to be a Griffin on the obverse which was used on coins of Teos. What is the size and weight of the coin?

Thanks for the replies so far. Unfortunately I can't (at least for now) post a better picture because I won't have the coin itself for a few more days. Insofar as size and weight is concerned I have no details because as I said the auction description was extremely sparse. However, the lion and gorgon coins are generally in the order of 13mm or so, therefore just measuring proportionately I would expect the small griffin coin to be something in the region of 8-9mm. If this is still too vague I'll post fuller details in due course.

Thanks again, Ian.

Just update us with the information when you receive the coin.

Just a word of welcome to the list. I can't help you with your question, but those are some nice looking coins. The Cherronesos is well struck and detailed. Enjoy!
