Well here is the coin I have been waiting for. Been keeping my eyes peeled for an Otho for several years. Finally pulled the trigger on this one. This also completes the 12 Caesars portion of my Imperial collection. Otho (A.D. 69) AR Denarius, A.D. 69, Rome, 18mm, 2.90g, 180°, RIC I 8. Obv: IMP M OTHO CAESAR AVG TR P. Bare head right. Rev: SECURITAS P R. Securitas standing left, holding wreath and scepter. Edited by MartiVltori 01/06/2016 9:54 pm

A good choice for the Otho...some wear, but a real nice portrait. Handsome coin. Congrats on the completion of the 12 Caesars set. Excellent work on the gallery, by the way...I was just visiting there and admiring.

Forty years and counting ...... Still no Otho ! Of course I am limited by my 'bronze only' rule. That makes Antioch my only real option. I watched a few over the years only to see them far exceed my budget. Maybe this will be the year ! Things have been going unusually well of late. I better put him on my bucket list right now.
Nice coin

Forty years of collecting ancient coins. Still no Otho !, and I don't restrict myself to a 'bronze only rule'. I simply haven't been fortunate enough to find one that I like, an can afford. Congratulations on the completion of your 12 Caesars set.

Congratulations on completing your 12 Caesars set. Fifteen years collecting ancients and no Otho for me either. Very nice coin.

A very nice example with strong portrait and name. Completing the 12 is something so many of us wish and strive for. Congratulations.

Nice Otho. Congrats on finishing your set of the 12 Caesars. I just finished mine 2 months ago. It felt good to finish it. Of course, now that I look at them I realize a few might need upgrading in the next few years or so.

very nice coin , I am still looking for denarius for Gaius (to expensive , saw last one for €1750) and Claudius ( missed one last week with a difference of €25) , but after 46 years I am still hopefully.Congrats on completing your set. albert

That is a very nice Otho and one I would not hesitate to add to my collection if the price was right. Good job snagging it! After 33 years it is the only one I need to complete a set of 12 Caesars, and one of three I need to complete a set in silver. Maybe I should bite the bullet?
Let me also compliment you on your gallery. Your historical write-ups are succinct and engaging. Good work.

For me the 2 most difficult coins in silver were the Gaius and Claudius.

I know I definitely won't be getting a Galba, Otho or Vitellius unless I find one in silly low grade. Too ludicrously high money. I already have 1 of the 12 Caesars (Claudius copper, RIC 111, in this thread - ignore the title, it's not Tiberius); took me nearly 3 years collecting ancients before I had even that. Looking forward to have 2 or 3 of these sometime. More than that doesn't seem likely. That said, I'm distinctly not focusing on the early Empire; my focus, if any, is the so-called LRBs, 4th to 5th century. That Claudius coin was a nice purchase from a place I very rarely visit; but I wanted at least one "12 Caesars" coin, and it fills the 1st century AD spot on my ongoing "one from each century" quest! (For the record: now that the 1st century BC spot is also filled with a narrowly dated coin, I'm up to 14, out of 26 or 27 [not sure if 6th BC is included]. Missing all of 7th-15th AD, all up to 4th BC, and 2nd AD; should have that last one soon enough - perhaps already if I get lucky with that provincial - but the others would be tricky.)
