Hi all,

Like a lot of people (I'm guessing), I had no clue about grading when I first started collecting coins 5 years ago. Shortly after I had begun, I went to my LCS and was taught how to grade the few George V Large Cent coins that I had. Overtime, I got my hands on more coins, and through this forum as well, I had the opportunity to test out my grading skills and give my opinions to others.

That being said, I would have loved to have a visual guide readily available whenever I wanted. This would have definitely helped accelerate my learning process and I would have been more comfortable looking at raw coins. And so, although there are a few books out there that help with grading (and a few, but limited, sites that do that as well), I decided to start a guide that could help new collectors and those learning to grade coins. It is strictly focused on circulation grades (up to AU58, and an example of uncirculated), but nothing in the MS grades since I find it tough to capture their features with my DSLR.

I have started with George V Large Cents and will make my way to Edward VII and Vickies, then maybe move on to small cents, five cents, and so on. It will be a long process, but I'll have fun putting it together.

Anyway, I have a few sample pages available on PDF through my dropbox link below. I am open to ANY comments at all. Whether its constructive feedback or anything you would like me to add, please feel free to message me or comment below.

Don't mind the upside down draft stamps. Don't know why they are upside down :S

I can't seem to share the dropbox link, but if someone wants a copy, please DM me and I will send the pages.

Thank you,

Paul

To educate yourself on the grading of U.S. coins,
search the 'PCGS Photograde' site.

Maybe include an image of the highest grade possible at the top for comparison?

I will send a section once I get the chance. Possibly after I finish my George V large cent section.

I'm going for a very similar concept. Something showing typical wear, and where to look for it. I'd be including pictures of real coins rather than drawings/scans.
