Hi there,

I was wondering how you would grade that nice piece from South Africa. In my opinion it does not really show any wear, has nice luster and only a couple of bagmarks.

I'm looking forward to hear other opinions.

Hard to see luster in these pictures, I assume it must be a scan of some sort, rather than a picture.

I will assume that the luster is much stronger than what can be seen here, and will also have to allow for the nicks and scratches which have come out much more smoothly.

I agree that I can't see any wear, rims look quite nice but with the scratches,
MS62 or thereabouts.

I have never looked very hard to find top grade 2 shilling pieces, but having said that, this is the best I have seen.

Mine is only about high EF or low AU.

Hi and thanks for the reply. I know that it is really hard to capture luster on scans but I guess that when it comes to details such as scratches scan show the absolute truth. Besides, I unfortunately do not have the best equipment to make proper photographs. Maybe the 2 following images will give a impression of what the coin looks like. Here again, light conditions were not the best when I took the photos.

I just wanted to let you know that I submitted the coin to PCGS at the World Money Fair in Berlin this February. After refreshing my data online for days I've got to see the grades now and well... what should I say?

This piece got a nice and clean MS63 with which I am very happy :)

Best
