I have a question, I have one of these quarters and I know the images should look like the pic but if I were to place my images side by side I would have one image right side up and one upside down. Is this common?

That is right. U.S. coins are "coin flip" while Canadas' is "medal flip"

The United States does this out of tradition, as this is what many of the colonial and even ancient coins did.
