I noticed the same thing, it will be interesting to compare prices, then vs. now.
I thought it was strange that many of the ICCS holders had a note that the holders were broken and resealed.

A little more detail It looks like quite a few sellers took a pretty big bath on the really high grade stuff. I did not try to match coin to coin, but took a look through the Landon Sale prices and compared to today's HA sale prices where possible. Many of the Landon sale coins were in lot's so these are averages of the lot or range over multiple lots. Some of the coins sold today might have come from mixed date lots, which I excluded in pricing for landon sale because I did not want to try and estimate a price over multiple years. Both sale prices include buyers premium. One big thing I noticed comparing the two sales is that the pictures of the Landon auction were spectacular, while most of these look so so in comparison. Some of these coins might have come out of the large mixed bag lots, as I could not find a grade match for the 1909 and 1910 as individual coins. A great deal if you got a 65 or 66 out of one of those. In addition, many of the landon ICCS flips had a notation of broken seal & reglued which might hurt the value. http://auctions.cdncoin.com/The-Can..._as35386_p13

Is the current US$ - CAN$ exchange rate included in your observations? There were some nice PCGS NFLD coins in that auction, but I did not bid this time...

Yes, all prices in CAD, prices should be +/-$25, did quick mental math of 1:1.40 and rounded.
Not familiar with the Newfoundland stuff yet, but I picked up the 1861 Nova Scotia 1/2 cent - PCGS MS63 for $84 USD

I picked up some gorgeous coins in this sale at fantastic prices, including a MS64 1c 1893 9/9, and a MS64 5c 1871 7/7.

I wonder why the ICCS new flips would be broken, its only a year. I would wonder if the coin had been exchanged with another. I don't buy anything US, if I have a choice with the bad exchange rate. The Americans really have a great opportunity to buy Canadian coins. Probably be another 10 yrs for the exchange rate to be at par. So I stick with buying Canadian. I wonder if its helping or hindering the hobby over all.

I too am suspicious about the cracked holders.. With the exception of a handful of Silver dollars over the years, never had that problem. HA claims that ICCS will reholder for free are doubtful. ICCS will do it for the person who ORIGINALLY sent the piece in, other than that there is a full regrade. Maybe some funny stuff going on? Be interesting to see if the pieces could be matched up. Also to see who the consign or was?

Another thought....as Roger stated , for a true comparison, you need to keep the exchange rate in mind. At the Landon sale the settlement rate was 1.25 , HA yesterday easy 1.425 .

If coins that have a crack in the holder are sent to |ICCS and drop down a grade I presume HA will reimburse the buyer if they choose to make a claim ?
Ive had some ICCS holders from HA that needed a reholder and no problems with them form ICCS. HA reimbursed me for the reholder service.

@purleywasted Some of the pics on HA site didn't have that lustre glow that we saw with Landon sale for sure but I think it was the lighting used. I have been pleasantly surprised when I revived some coins from HA auctions where the coins in hand were more than I expected from the pics off their site. Still a nice buy for MS66's at those prices especially ex Landons and ICCS.

I had several proxy bids in for the lower priced items but they didn't hold... Quote: I picked up some gorgeous coins in this sale at fantastic prices, including a MS64 1c 1893 9/9, and a MS64 5c 1871 7/7.
Was that 7/7 unattributed on the holder? There was an 1871 5 cent MS64 that had the double 7 but wasn't mentioned on the holder. I already have that variety and couldn't justify the price. It ended up going for 1000$ which is a steal.

Heritage, for a Canadian bidder 18|% fee, almost 40 cent exchange plus hst, just hard to bid except again must have.

I think people were really excited at the Landon sale and might have brought up the bids a lot. Plenty of 65 and 66 large cents all being sold at once, everyone wants a piece of it. But I think things have cooled down since, and the prices as well. At some TCNc auctions I've seen a few Landon sale coins. They sold for a bit more than the HA (probably equivalent if you take into account premiums and exchange rate), but they were generally lower than Landon.
Just my opinion

I am wondering if that is a cause for some of the low prices, I didn't keep track, but a lot of the Canadian lots seemed to go to internet bidders. If all you can see was these photo's, it is possible that people were not willing to pay a premium for a coin that ICCS calls "Red" and has a broken flip. They definitely did not look like beautiful glowing red/orange examples of the landon auction.

True enough, all prices are set to CAD, using a 1.25 exchange rate would mean the 1887 - MS66 would be closer to $1000 at the heritage auction.
