i aquired this 1946 dollar a few months ago and once I got it in the right light I realised it was cleaned. I could not return it so my only option to not take a loss was to dump it. I feel kind of bad for dumping a problem coin on someone but I found a buyer at the recent polish cultural center coin show and sold it. usually I wouldnt do this but I could not afford to take the loss. fast forward to now and I realise it is in an upcoming auction. I figured that I would warn the community since some of you may have ended up bidding on it for the color if you did not know it was cleaned. http://www.icollector.com/1946-Cana...62_i24010493Feel free to call me Will.

But... but... it is in an ICCS holder stating no problem...

I'm curious, since you know the coin, do you think they net graded it?

no, the coin aside from attractive reverse color was ugly and has a serious long and deep scratch above the hair as well as some others on other places of the obv, it is a 2xHP though. definitely only a 62 if it didnt have cleaning, probably would get a detail grade from anyone else for the big scratch alone.

Just have to ask, what did you get for this coin at the show?

So you stuck someone else with a damaged coin without disclosing it and now want to make sure they can't get their money back out of it? Not terribly sporting of you.

with Rugrats, why not contact the auctioneer and inform them and also I would notify ICCS and let them know of your displeasure. Question is did you alert the new buyer of the defect before selling it? If not then shame on you. If you did then my deep apologies.

ICCS , like all the other graders does miss stuff. That is why it is imperative to always buy coins and not opinions on holders.

So you sold at ms62 prices, believing it wasn't, but no one else shoud buy it at ms62 prices even though it's certified as such? I don't get the psychology.

In ICCS's opinion its problem free but in Dollarman's opinion its been cleaned. Hmmm..what exactly is the problem, simple matter of difference of opinions because it seems he sold it for a fair price either way. 9-MS-62s sold on ebay average price $166.51...20-MS-60s average price $105.99

ICCS has a habit of net grading. There are pros and cons to net grading. Here they may have felt it was a better quality Unc than 62, but lightly cleaned long ago/toned over, so they just called it problem-free 62.
This is why seeing coins in hand is important before buying.

OK SPP-Ottawa I will take the bait. Another option would have been to send it back to ICCS for their grade guarantee. If they agreed with you after a second look you would have received the fair market value for the coin. This way you would have avoided passing on what in your opinion is a cleaned coin. Oh wait, I have ICCS confused with PCGS and NGC. Seriously though I think Pokermandude offers the most logical explanation.
