AU with some sort of altered surface, so AU details as they say in the US.

Really? The surface doesn't appear to be cleaned. I know the owner had this coin as his table piece so he quite frequently held the coin, but did not clean it. Forgot to mention also, that the stuff around the letters is dirt buildup, guessing where his fingers didn't touch when handling the coin over the years. Does that still give a details grade?

That actually seems right, a handled coin, not a pocket piece, not a rub coin, but not really circulated either. Don't really know how to grade that one. I think au details is likely fair.

it is a sharp coin but the color and appearance of the surfaces is strange. I would say that there is a lot of detail and that this coin could probably sell for $200+

Well, thanks guys. I guess now I have to decide, if it is going to get a details grade regardless, may be worth a light dipping/cleaning to at least look pretty. I want to vomit even saying that.

Dipping that one might actually make it look worse. With a surface like that-it's not really tarnish I don't think- dipping a coin like that could make it look cleaned. I don't think you can make that one look better, and if you try, it might end up looking worse. If it was a common date I'd do it, but looking at the prices, thats a rare one. Do what you feel you must.

i think the current color actually highlights the details a bit. leave her alone, the color is part of the coins interesting history as a table piece.

edit: congrats to alan on his 200th post

I appreciate all the words and great advice guys. Your probauly right on this one, best to just leave her alone. You think it would be worth sending to ICCS with my next lot of coins, or just sell raw? It is definitely a 5/5 with a nice die crack on the right side of the canoe as well.

After post fees and grading fees it would probably be best sold the way it is in my opinion. Has full details rather nice looking in last picture there.
