I have finally begun what I hope is my final phase of my cataloging project. I am photographing my collection. I am not doing my entire collection, just the main part.

I have more than 1800 coins to photograph.

So far... I have taken pictures of about 40 coins.

I will be working on this for a while.

Slow and steady, I need to go slow and steady. I will be doing this for most of the year.
Rest in Peace

Enjoy your venture. It will be a very rewarding accomplishment as you progress. I've been in the habit of photographing every coin I get before I enter them into my inventory. I wait until I have 30-40 new coins, then do all the work of photography and inventory insertion. It's actually fun. Plus, when you have all of your coins photographed it's a ball to just sit and page through them with the coins in hand.

Good Luck! It's a daunting but worthwhile project.

I myself have nearly 1100 coins, all have been photographed, cataloged and then added to my website.

Now that the entire collection has been photographed any new coin purchase follows a standard process from photography to cataloging to being placed in a slab and then into the vault.

The pictures are posted on my website which provides me with being able to view my coins and also use the site as an inventory when I'm at shows.

Good Luck with your project and please post some pics!

I've been re-photographing everything in my collection that's worth photographing. There are currently 4697 images, but far fewer coins. For a given coin, you might have the following images:

- 2 (or more) old film photos from before 1998
- 2-3 old scanned images from 1998-2010
- 2 old DSLR photos from 2011-2013 (or even 2004)
- 2-3 or more DSLR photos from 2015-2016

Many coins are not worth imaging -- for example: in my silver stack there are 300 1964 Washington quarters taken from circulaition back in the mid 1960s.
