I recently acquired this 1848 large cent. I am a new collector and am still learning and don't have a clue. The deluxe edition of US coins says that a counterfeit is more valuable to collectors. Is this true?
I'm assuming the counterfeits that are worth more than the real thing are contemporary counterfeits (made in the same era as the authentic coin) and are quite scarce.
