The Change Checker folks from The Westminster Collection company has started a petition to bring back the £5 at face value rather than £13 from The Royal Mint.

Here is the petition if you are interested in signing in.

They are also running a scheme if you are one of the 1000 people picked, you can buy the 2016 £5 Queen's 90th birthday coin for £5. If you do enter the scheme, make sure you are not signing up for the other coin purchase that comes up on the 2nd page of the ballot.

That one has 1,866 supporters - but the "put David Bowie on a banknote" gets 36,457 supporters....

For collectors, OK if it is a crown sized silver coin. Both proof and non proof versions would work. Just greed otherwise, if it is in copper nickel.

Can't think of how it would be possible to introduce a Five Pound coin into circulation. It would have to weigh 10 grammes or less. There would be a weight problem alongside the circulating bi metallic Two Pounds.
