Ok so I have a nickel I bought the other day that is an error. It has clearly been struck on the wrong plantchet (it is too thin and light and has almost a reeded edge to it) the revese of the coin is weakly struck with some obvious doubling or more...

Long story short I want to have it certified and I'm trying to figure out the best place to send it. I have heard ANACS is the best at verifying and certifying error coins. But ultimately I will have it crossed over to PCGS. Should I just send it to OCGS first, or will ANACS have a better chance of verifying this coin?

You might save yourself time and money by posting pictures. Many times what looks like an error is something that happened to the coin after it was minted.

PMD = Post Minting Damage (also PSD - post strike damage)

What does it weigh? We need it accurate to at least 0.1g

PCGS would be out of the question for this coin.

Nickels weigh 5 grams so that is a good answer for error.

I'd popcorn this if I knew how.

I downloaded a fact sheet for foreign coins minted in US mints... I'm starting to think it might be struck on a 1 Centavo planchet

The semi-reeded edge is puzzling. What's the diameter?

Nickels do not have a reeded edge collar, therefore, I would place it in the PMD Category...

I think it was Sandblasted, then placed in a knurled wheel (common in machine shops)...

PCGS-Vs.-ANACS-Vs.-Other

Just my opinion.

I'm strongly leaning away from PMD the reverse isn't man made it is misstruck somehow. And the planchette is thin but not worn down.

Didn't the 1 centavo minting only start up again (after the war) in 1958?
