Please provide grade and any potential issues you see with this coin. I think it is VG08 but cannot tell about env. damage, just natural toning or other. Thanks

I would explore the other 1877-S half dollars that are offered right now. There are dozens and dozens of them at lower prices - some of which are even a little nicer than this one.

If you are just looking for a Seated half dollar as a type coin, searching the whole category from least expensive and that will show you lots and lots of examples that are less than $40 that look even nicer than this one.

I am looking at others but specifically for San Fran mint. I would like to know if there are condition issues with this one, more for my edification, since I am very weak in that area.

The surfaces are fairly dark which may be indicative of environmental damage, also some small gouges in the surfaces. I think you can get a much better coin in this price range.

I don't like the reverse damage, from an eye appeal standpoint..even though it doesn't hurt the value of this low of a grade coin too much.dont like the obverse surface either and price is too high..wait for better one

The seller's lighting is not favorable to the coin. I think it's probably a G4 to G6 coin, but hard to tell. The reverse has pretty bad train tracks from a hit. $40 is strong money for a problem-free example, and this coin is not problem-free.
