is this an old PCGS slab? I saw it in a pic, and noticed it said 'Newport Beach, CA 92660' on the back, so I figured it must be PCGS....

Question-About-A-Slab

I looked on sampleslabs, and have never seen this style before

thanks ahead for your help

Hmm I haven't seen one like it. It's just an insert with no outer shell correct? Looks like it's a raw insert with a capsule around only the coin? Very interesting. Maybe Bstrauss or Conder101 will know

the outer shell is the white casing....like I said, in another pic I could see the 'Newport Beach, CA 92660' at the bottom of the back label, so I figured it might be PCGS

the label seems to be a sticker....

Yeah, its an exposed "insert" with an exposed label and it looks like only the coin is protected and secured with the 4 zip-tie "staples". And from the Newport address it's a good assumption it's PCGS I've just never seen anything like it.

Think I'm gonna ping Conder for you right now as I don't want to wait. The strange construction of this "slab" is just too cool to wait for answers

Not PCGS

HaInes Tulving was a long time coin dealer. In fact shut down last year (cratered).

This was how they presented coins for sale long ago (dates I have to look up and I'm out and about w/o easy access to my copy of Conder's book).

That's a tulving item. Whoa. I wonder if there's collectibility there like having a Madoff Rolex. I should have guessed that with the Newport addy

My bad on the spelling - Hannes Tulving. And the end was 2014 not 2015 http://www.coinweek.com/bullion-rep...y-collapse/) and at the end they were a bullion company.

Conder says it's a "slab like holder" but he wasn't sure if this was just how they packaged coins for sale. Not sonic welded, the four prongs snaps in place and the paper label covers the joint.

The scratched off part of the label bottom right is the original sales price.

here's the reverse:
