I recently come into a large collection of Washington 90% silver quarters that I am sorting through to separate the valuable ones from the melt value ones. What should I be looking for ? Should I just use the Red Book as a guide and save all of the ones with a $ value?

Thanks for the help as I'm new to the forum and trying to learn a little more about coins.

You may want to check them for doubling and mint marks that don't look right as they may be repunched. If you find something post some pics in the variety and error thread and we will let you know if its something worth keeping.

Other than that your just going to have to check the dates and determine there grade and evaluate whether they are worth more than the current silver melt value.

Lucky you!!

I suggest you pull out all the 1932D and S mint marked ones and send to me. I'll pay postage.
Almost all of the earlier ones are becoming valuable since so many are being melted down for jewlery. Hang on to those for now.
