Has any here completed a basic Shield nickel collection? For example what is in the dansco albumn?

I have no but love the idea. Wouldn't be super hard unless you wanted proofs also. The 1871 would be the hardest to get.

I keep toying with the idea of doing a set but I'd want full strikes.
The Mint was still having trouble striking coin on nickel.
So weak strikes are pretty much the rule-of-thumb.

I've always pondered the idea of such a set. I don't even collect them and I realize the appeal and difficulty of obtaining a decent 1871. So much so, I got one.

prethen, nice 1871! Yes, I am missing that one! I was planning to stop after getting that, as the proofs and 1879-81 are quite pricey.

I really love the reverse. It is so simple and beautiful

It is probably my favorite design of any US nickel.

Here is my set of Shield nickels. I put this together a few years ago and have not upgraded any of them.

Beautiful set, Gary. Nice to see that it's possible, although I'm sure a few of those later issues cost some major bucks.

Do you house your set in one of the 9 pocket pages made for encapsulated coins?

This is as far as I've been able to get on a set of Shield nickels (Dansco).

I love Shield nickels, but I just don't have that kind of money, so I have exactly enough to fill all the Shield nickel spots in a Dansco 7070

(For the record, the No Rays was bought for $10 when I got tired after years of finding none at all, and the With Rays was a lucky 20 cent bargain bin find. I don't recall what the date on the former is, but looking at the mintage list, probably 1867; the latter is so worn that it doesn't have any.)
