I think a mint worker got a little carried away polishing this die for 1964-D nickels. Look how much shorter the A looks to the rest of the lettering in USA. It almost looks like a completely different font.

I would think that was from grease.

Maybe. I don't know. How did it form a point in the grease? I am not very good with errors, and know even less about nickels. I picked up a $100 brick to see what all the fuss was about. Any helpful tips from you nickel searches would be greatly appreciated.

A closer image of the edge and rim might help. It makes me think of a coin that was dropped and damaged?

The left vertical segment of the M is thin as crap too though.

Now I have misplaced it. UGH. I gotta get better organized. A better photo setup would be nice as well. That is my next investment. I have an old AmScope, but do not have Windows XP to run it with. The laptop I was using exclusively for that crapped out on me about a year and a half ago. To make myself feel better for misplacing the coin I will go with Coop's answer and say it was just damage. No, I still don't feel better.
