I was in the local coin shop looking through their bulk silver; when my eye was caught by a nicely toned 1879-S morgan. When I turned it over and saw that it was a reverse of 78, and in about XF/AU, priced at $24 I promptly bought it.
I went to the
VAM website; and quickly found that it was a completely broken "r" "tiust" variety. It was clearly not a
VAM 6, so I Looked at
VAM 46. The area between the nose and lips is dinged, and so is no help. It does have the die chip between the "T" and "Y" of "Liberty". It does have a completely broken "r" in "trust". It does have the die chip in the lower left wing. It does NOT have the diagonal polish lines in the bow. It does not really have any polish lines in the bow, except what may be very light vertical lines, but are more likely planchet marks. Is there another
VAM, that I am missing? I am on vacation, and don't have my camera. If need be I can try to use my son's iphone. Thanks!
