I've been looking into these half dollars lately. Here's one from my collection. I really like the look of high grade blast white examples, but I thought this one had some unique color and toning. And I like the idea of having a variety of toned and blast white coins in my commemorative collection.

Here it is. What do you think?

Nice coin.
Based on the ropes going across the sails I'd give it a mid-AU grade.
Those ropes are generally the first things that disappear with wear.

Indeed, the coin is AU, but spectacularly toned. Nice coin!

The sail detail is all there just doesn't quite show up completely in these pics.

I'm thinking this reached MS-64.

And yeah, this is a nicely toned example with a blast white bust set against a slate grey toned background. A beautiful example of this commemorative.

I like that design and like the others, I think its toning is sweet. Great coin!

Appreciation of toning on a coin is an individual preference ... this example is certainly much more appealing to my eye than the very dark Columbian you showed us earlier.

I'm unable to estimate the grade based on the photos. You seem to have several of these examples ... are you building a grading set of them, or simply interested in the coin?

This was an upgrade for my classic commemorative set. Trying to build the set in ms65 or better.
