I don't know where to start with this.

It is from Ecuador according to the obverse but the denomination appears to be misspelled? Was it intentional?

The unusual world coins catalog was no help in this matter.

I have a bunch of these pieces and they all have the same obverse but commemorate something different on the reverse.

I guess it would help if someone could read the language. Haven't been able to find these on the internet and the seller didn't know much about them either. Nevertheless I bought them and could use some help deciphering!

The Chinese pump out lots of counterfeits, but some true oddities as well. I highly suspect this is one such oddity. Any idea about composition? This might be a 1oz silver bullion round, although I don't see a .999 anywhere on the coin to indicate that.

For comparison, there is a coin (a jewelry piece, really) that comes up on here from time to time. It looks like a US $20 gold, and is made of quality gold, but the legend reads "PRIZE MODERN ELOWER".

I agree with what Finn235 says.
Here's a picture of what should be PENCE on a different Chinese made fake.

So would you say that the Chinese minted these pieces without Ecuador's authorization? I just don't see why they'd make it so obvious by printing the reverse using their characters.

It definitely isn't a 1oz round, not nearly heavy enough. It's about the size of a US quarter.

I was thinking maybe the "100" had something to do with the purity but I'm not entirely sure. There isn't a stamp anywhere clearly indicating it :(

To me it looks like a fantasy coin. I think it's silver plated. Look at the brown/black highspots. I'm pretty sure this is no official Ecuadorian issued coin.
"The Chinese" refers to Chinese counterfeiters and not the state of China. The state has nothing to do with counterfeiters, they do nothing about them.
The "100" could be referring to the purity but I think there's no actual silver in it.
Ecuador uses the US dollar since 2000. I would imagine any commemorative Sucre coins having the approximate size as a US silver dollar. If it would be legitimate, I would be very interested in knowing why there's no description of the commemoration in Spanish and why they write in Mandarin only.

I thought it was fantasy as well! It does look and feel like silver but may just be silver plated.

I agree that the legend should have been printed in both languages. I know Tanzania issued an official coin with a spelling mistake in their currency (Shilingi instead of Shillingi) so it isn't unheard of that countries mess up. At this point I'm dying to know what it says at the top...

I did find a link to others who have pieces from the same series. All the ones I've seen seem to be just as scratched up as mine.

There was an instance where Chile misspelled their own name. "CHIIE" instead of "CHILE":
Ecuador?

The only characters I can make out in the Mandarin text are the cross and the letter to the left of it, together they say "50". 50th anniversary of counterfeiting Panamá coins?

I have to also agree with the idea of silver plated. I have a coin with the exact same appearance and it is silver plated. Could be nickel or other, but those that think silver plating are probably on target.
