Hi
Possibly a dumb question (newbie here) but I was wondering:

The United States mint website has the 2016 1 oz Buffalo coin listed for March 31 release date, and doesn't list it as "out of stock" anywhere on the site. This makes me think the coins are being launched March 31. Yet if I search various online coin stores I see the 2016 buffalo "in stock" almost everywhere. What am I missing? Should I be suspicious about the 2016 buffalo coins currently available online?

I think they mean by that is you pay now and they ship the coins out when they are released.

No I would not be suspicious of the major bullion dealers, just might call ahead and check "in stock".
Unless the dealers can buy them before they go on sale to the general public which is possible.

The 2016 Gold Buffalo bullion coin (been around for 10 years) is indeed in stock and presently available. It is only sold to Authorized Purchase dealers and NOT sold by the Mint to regular Joe's

The collector proof W gold Buffalo will be issued by the Mint at a later date.

Kinda like the bullion 5 ounce silver ATB pucks vs. the P mint marked collector version of the same product
