I have photograghs of several coins that I would like to post, but their file size far exceeds the 100K max allowed. when I download my pics from my camera their size is approx. 1.5MB! Is there any way to reduce their size so that I can post these pics ? My Olympus camera takes great photos on close up mode and has several resolution modes.

Here's a free program to download....

http://www.coincommunity.com/downlo...iview398.exe

It will help you crop and resize. Great program and totally safe, I host it here.

Or you can get a free account at photobucket.com.

Looks like Bobby helped you out. To me, the easiest thing to try is to make sure you save as a jpeg first. Open the file and let the default program on your PC open it. Even Windows picture manager is fine really. Once you open it, it should give you the option to open in a new window to edit. First, crop out everything you can but the coin itself. Then resize. Resize it by pixel, and make it close to 500X500 pixels. Sometimes even more is fine. Then save it back to your desktop, and the properties should show you a usable size for here.

Well I have been experimenting with InfraView now and it has helped, although I am still having difficulty getting the file size below 100k even after cropping and resizing. what does 24BPP mean ? could this be the problem and how can I change it. my Olympus camera has 2 different macro modes: close-up(6-12") & very close-up (1-3"). both modes take very nice pictures, but can this effect my file size also?

Load your photo in Irfanview. Crop as desired. Click on Image; select Resize/Resample. You will then see where you can set a new size. Set the larger dimension (height or width) to 600-650 pixels; the other dimension will automatically change to maintain the same aspect ratio. Click on OK. Save. Load to website hosting your images.

Hope this helps.

Thank you everyone for your help ! After further research I determined that I had to set my camera for small size print mode of 640x480 in macro mode. this seems to have greatly reduced the file size while still maintaining a quality image. I was able to successfully post a pic on the test forum !! I now hope to share some wonderful coins with everyone.
