1868 Shield Nickel Error - Coin Community Forum

rgl1951 New Member United States 42 Posts	Posted 01/31/2016 09:44 am I found a 1868 Shield nickel with what appears to be significant die errors...specifically broken die. I sent the coin to NGC as a possible error. They returned it graded XF45 but with a comment the error wasn't a recognized error. Does that mean the coin is unique? The second is what appears to be a Cud from 4:30 to 2:30 and the third is just above the " Cud to the "R" of TRUST. Report this Post to the Staff
moxking Rest in Peace United States 17900 Posts	Posted 01/31/2016 11:53 pm Finding a Shield nickel without die cracks, die chips, Cuds, or die clash is the real challenge. They simply were not familiar with minting those very hard planchets and the dies started cracking almost immediately. Report this Post to the Staff
