it came in an old Mercury dimes album as a 1916 d , but I'm don't think it is.

S. To much undulating to be a D. Looks to be a top right Serif faintly.
A very low grade D (AG3, FR2) should show a crescent left side shape of a D mintmark. This does not.

Just my opinion.

thanks guys, I didn't think it was, I got the book with all the coins except the over dates for melt value with the 21 in good and 21-d in fine.

I have an AG3 just can't get my phone to take a decent enough picture of it to post.

The guy at my LCS has told me he's never let a 16-d slip into his junk silver, but he's had customers occasionally say they found them in his junk and they are 16-s like this one and for some reason they are content putting it in to fill their hole, even when he tells them they aren't d's....

I've seen a good number of folders with exactly this type of 16-S in the D spot. Was at an auction recently when one of those sets went for high bucks because the bidders thought it was a D.
